Our School Story
Our Context
Manoah Steves Elementary strives to create community based on belonging and connections, both to the land and to each other. We are situated on the unsurrendered territory of the Musqueam people located in the Sturgeon Bank Estuary and near the historical Musqueam camps of q̓ʷeyaʔχʷ (Garry Point) and ʔənxʷicən' (Francis Road). Traditionally and ancestrally, and since the beginning of memory, Musqueam people have shared the stewardship of this land, located at the mouth of a great river (stó:lō) with Tsawwassen, Kwantlen, and other Coast Salish Peoples.
Our Montessori and Neighbourhood programs collaborate to create holistic learning experiences. We actively engage contributions from students, staff, families and the broader community. We work together with a sense of intentionality and purpose. Based on research and experiences, we are working towards common values and sharing everything we do as a reflection of what the community identifies is important.
