SCHOOL NEWS

  • It’s time to practice energy conservation.  Manoah Steves will be participating in an event to help students remember to wear more layers to school as the days are cooler outside. We will be turning down the heat on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday (Burr Days).  By wearing warmer clothing, students can help save gas and money.  Thanks from the Steves Green Team.

  • Family Literacy Week this year is January 26 – February 2nd.  It’s a great reminder about the importance of reading and engaging in other literacy-related activities together as a family.  This year’s theme is “Learn to be Green, Together”.  Can you brainstorm ways to work together with your family to be kind to the environment?  Download this book for activities to do together!

  • In honour of Family Literacy Week, we are holding two contests:  a photo contest and a bookmark contest.  Send a photo to Ms. Ho (hho@sd38.bc.ca) of your family reading together to enter the photo contest.  Create a bookmark to illustrate ways that we can “Learn to be Green, Together” to enter the bookmark contest.  Winners of each contest will be chosen through a random draw, and will receive a variety of book prizes. In addition, a copy of the winning bookmark will be available for Steves students to take home.

  • Thursday is Spirit Day:  Throw Back Thursday.  Dress in something nostalgic if you wish.

  • We will also be having Flashlight Friday in our classes.  Bring a flashlight to read a book on Friday.

  • On Tuesday, we are excited to welcome Uzume Taiko Live Drumming.  Each division will be participating in this interactive program.  Check out  UzumeTaikoLive  Youtube channel to view some of our favourite Uzume Taiko Songs.

School Story in Action 2024-2025

January 23

This week we would like to share our wheelchair basketball community experience. Grade 2 to 7 students had the opportunity to learn a new sport from the BC Wheelchair Society. The BC Wheelchair Society has the following mission statement: To provide experiences that inspire inclusion, participation and excellence through wheelchair basketball.

Student Voice and Reflections

“Wheelchair basketball is very good because it’s different and now I know what it feels like to be in a chair”

“It is very fun because everyone is even in our ability since it’s our first time”

This links to our School Story focus in the following way:

Steves is a safe learning community where we strive to:

  • create a sense of belonging
  • see ourselves
