End of School Year Assessments

What targeted actions did we take to address our school’s learning focus?

Teachers shared learning routines and strategies with one another, planned together, and implemented age appropriate writing lessons with their classes.

What gap or problem were these actions intended to address? Why was this particular strategy/action chosen? These actions were intended to address a lack in basic writing skills across our student body. Teachers needed time to work together to create an understanding of the challenges across grades.
What does the evidence tell us so far?The focused lessons helped increase the ability of students to organize thoughts, write with confidence, and use effective syntax. Learning improved for regular students as well as those with learning disabilities specific to writing and students who were English Language Learners.
To what extent are the actions making a difference?End of year assessments showed that students had improved their in their writing abilities.
How will we move forward accordingly? Students will enter new classes in September, at which time teachers will evaluate writing skills (together in grade groups) to see what areas require further focus.
