Our Outdoor Classroom

Over the past few years, Manoah Steves Elementary has developed a garden and outdoor environmental learning centre. The community grows herbs and vegetables, a sustainable, native-plant, pollinator garden and bulb gardens. This outdoor learning centre enables students to engage in inquiry and learning while connecting with the land and soil that the school sits on. Richmond has a rich history of farming and, as such, is a strength of our people and this place.

Staff have attended a Garden-Based Education Workshop Series at the UBC Orchard Garden as well as a similar workshop through the Van Dusen Botanical Garden. Through the summer and other holidays families have signed-up to care for the garden when the school is not in session.
