SCHOOL NEWS

  • Our Parent / Teacher Conferences will take place on Wednesday and Thursday this week.  Note that all divisions will be dismissed at 1:45pm on both Wednesday and Thursday.

  • We will be having our Scholastic Book Fair in the library from Tuesday to Friday at lunch and after school.  During conferences, your children should be under your supervision, and should not be left at the book fair.  The library will be closed during this time.

  • We kindly ask that all families follow our parking guidelines.  Enter only off Springford and exit onto 4th Avenue. Please note that parking on Springford Avenue is not allowed:  it is important to not block the entrance to our lot, or any of the private residences on this street.

  • Students in grades 4 to 7 will have the chance to participate in a mock election on Friday, October 18th here at Steves Elementary.  Students have been learning about government in their classrooms and will have a chance to vote for one of the candidates here in Richmond-Steveston.  Some of the important skills they will be practicing while learning about the democratic process involve critical thinking skills, respect for self and community, and how polling stations function.  This is the 25th year that students have been able to vote here at Steves with help from a non-profit group CIVIX and with help from the non-partisan Elections BC.

  • Remember that today (October 11th) is the last day to order food for next week’s hot lunch from Ajishou Sushi.  Order through this link.

School Story in Action 2024-2025

October 11, 2024

This week we would like to highlight our Community Walks. Community walks create a sense of belonging and connection, not only to the place but also to the people. Students and staff can see everyone together as a group. It is a chance to see yourself as part of a community bigger than the four walls of a classroom. We are all get the opportunity to interact with people in different programs (Neighbourhood and Montessori), with staff in different roles, and with students of different ages.

This links to our School Story focus in the following way:

  • Steves is a safe learning community where we strive to build connections to our community. (Steves School Lens)
